Five best sales & useful tips for Black Friday

Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year and the perfect opportunity to grab some bargains in the run up to Christmas. Last year Brits spent a whopping £5.8 billion over the four days between Black Friday and Cyber Monday (typically the busiest day of the year for online shopping). This year’s Black Friday falls on November 24th, but where will be the best places to get the best deals? We’ve put together a handy guide to help you prepare.

Amazon

Amazon aren’t afraid to go all out on sales, as we saw on Prime Day, which this year was the company’s biggest day ever. Amazon tend to build a few days of sales around Black Friday, so you won’t need to be poised at your computer on the stroke of midnight, but you can still expect a discount of up to 50% of some items, usually Amazon own brand products such as the Echo and the Firestick.

Argos

Argos fell foul of technology when they had some problems with their website last year, but they will be back with a bang once again this year. The Argos catalogue is where many people turn for Christmas presents, and sifting through their many thousands of products is much easier online. Expect great deals on tablets, toys and smartphones.

John Lewis

Although a high-end retailer, John Lewis aren’t afraid of getting involved in Black Friday and it’s paying off: last year five orders were placed every second on their website at its busiest time. Last year they matched their competitors for deals on tech goods such as TVs, and they have excellent offers on womenswear, homewares and garden goods too, so look out of high quality items at low prices.

Boots

Boots have confirmed that they will be taking part in Black Friday this year, which is great news for all health and beauty lovers. Offers will include perfume, makeup and electrical products, all of which can make thoughtful and useful Christmas gifts for friends and family, or just a lovely treat for yourself.

Tesco

Tesco is a very heavy hitter when it comes to Black Friday retailers, so much so that fights actually broke out in their stores a few years ago, and last year 250 Tesco Extra stores had to close between midnight and 5am to allow staff to prepare for the sheer volume of people expected through the doors! Hopefully Tesco have got some solid Black Friday plans in place to cope this year, so that you can grab some great bargains with as little stress as possible.

Our top tips for Black Friday shopping

  • Be sure to check the above retailers’ Black Friday web pages. These will be placed on their sites in the run up to Black Friday, plus they may also release new deals here before November 24th and you don’t want to miss out.
  • Do your research on particular products you want to bag before the day of the sale. It will save you the stress of searching round all the sites on Black Friday and give you the peace of mind of knowing you’re buying exactly the right thing, plus you’ll know you’re getting the product at the best available price. Doing a price comparison will help you make sure you keep your spending in your prefered price range.
  • Think long-term. Whilst snapping up some perfume or a flatscreen TV on a whim is brilliant, you could save serious money in the long run by doing all your Christmas shopping at the same time. Plus, many stores offer vouchers or bonuses every time you shop which you can also use to put towards Christmas gifts.
  • Set up online accounts to speed up the process! Setting up accounts will make the checkout process much faster than usual as you won’t have to sign up. This can be particularly useful if there is limited stock of products and lots of people trying to purchase the same thing1
  • Check delivery times – especially for Christmas presents. Although you’ll be buying products in November, big items such as furniture could take longer to arrive. Ensure that you always check the estimated delivery times when you are buying items.
