Black Friday: How and where to get your money’s worth in 2022!

Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year, and the perfect opportunity to grab some bargains in the run-up to Christmas.

In 2021, Brits spent a whopping £9.42 billion over the course of the Black Friday weekend (compared to £5.8 billion in 2017).

This year’s Black Friday falls on 25th November… but will the best places be to snatch up some top deals? We’ve put together a handy guide below to the best places to shop to help you prepare.

Plus, if you’re looking to earn some extra pennies to spend when the day rolls around, read all the way to the end of the blog to discover the best ways to make money from home…

Here are the 5 best places to spend your Black Friday savings in 2022:

1. Amazon

Amazon aren’t afraid to go all out on sales, as we saw on Prime Day, which this year was the company’s biggest day ever at a total of $12 billion (£10.33 billion) worldwide.

They tend to build a few days of sales around Black Friday, so you won’t need to be poised at your computer on the stroke of midnight. But, you can still expect a discount of up to a whopping 50% on some items!

2. Argos

Argos fell foul of technology when they had some problems with their website in 2016, but they will be back with a bang once again this year.

The Argos catalogue is where many people turn for Christmas presents, and sifting through their many thousands of products is much easier online. Expect great deals on tablets, toys, and smartphones!

3. John Lewis

Although a high-end retailer, John Lewis aren’t afraid of getting involved in Black Friday, and it’s certainly paid off over the last few years!

They are expected to effortlessly match their competitors for deals on tech goods such as TVs, and will have excellent offers on womenswear, homewares and garden goods too. So, look out of high-quality items at low prices.

4. Currys

If you love all things tech, Currys is the place to be! In 2021, they even embraced a theme: doing what’s most comfortable for you. And they’re sure to bring this about again as November comes around! Expect deals on anything and everything from laptops, phones, cameras, tablets, audio devices.

Fun fact: In 2020, Currys sold enough kettles to make over 20,388 cups of tea simultaneously!

5. Very

“If you thought Black Friday 2021 was good, you’re going to love Black Friday 2022.” Very has promised on their website!

This year, you’ll be able to nab a number of amazing deals on hundreds of designer brands across clothing, toys and games, sports and leisure, gifts and jewellery, beauty and much much more.

5 unbeatable Black Friday shopping tips

1. Keep an eye on the above retailers’ Black Friday web pages

The relevant links and ads will be placed on their sites in the run-up to Black Friday. Plus, they may also release new deals here before 25th November, and you don’t want to miss out!

2. Do your research on products you want to bag before the day of the sale

It’ll save you a lot of stress of searching around all the sites on Black Friday and give you the peace of mind of knowing you’re buying exactly the right thing. Plus, you’ll know you’re getting the product at the best available price!

Doing a price comparison will help you make sure you keep your spending in your preferred price range.

3. Think long-term

Whilst snapping up some perfume or a flatscreen TV on a whim is brilliant, you could save serious money in the long run by doing all your Christmas shopping at the same time.

Plus, many stores offer vouchers or bonuses every time you shop which you can also use to put towards Christmas gifts.

4. Set up online accounts to speed up the process

Setting up accounts will make the checkout process much faster than usual. This can be particularly useful if there is limited stock of products and lots of people trying to purchase the same thing!

5. Check delivery times – especially for Christmas presents

Although you’ll be buying products in November, big items such as furniture could take longer to arrive. Ensure that you always check the estimated delivery times when you are buying items.

Finally, here are the best ways to make money from home in time for Black Friday:

1. Create your very own items to sell

If you’ve got a creative spark and spot a gap in the market, see if you can fill that gap with your very own homemade products!

For example, if you’re great at knitting or crochet, you could make customised matching hats, gloves and scarves to sell on Esty in time for the winter season, or create a range of homemade gifts (from toys to soaps, clothes to decoration) to sell to friends and family in time for Christmas.

2. Work as a freelance proof reader or copywriter

With digital content all the rage, businesses are constantly looking for freelancers to proofread or write content to go on their websites. So, if you have a flair for the written word, check out places like LinkedIn and Indeed for different opportunities.

There are lots of different free courses you can take to boost your skills and subsequently get more work, too!

3. Offer local babysitting/childcare services

If you’ve had a DBS check for working with children (which you’ll need if you’re over 16), offering your services as a babysitter or childminder is a great way to earn a bit of extra money!

Ask your friends and family if they have any toys, games and play equipment they no longer use and would like to donate and turn your living room and garden into a playtime paradise.

You’ll be amazed how quickly your parent friends will take you up on your service – especially in the run up to the festive season!

4. Take part in market research

Online market research is undoubtedly one of the best ways to make money from home. From online communities to virtual focus groups and online interviews, the opportunities to take part are not only really interesting and great fun, but they often pay really well – usually in cash, or in voucher form that you can spend in the stores shared above!
