Your paid online community FAQs answered:
What is an online community?
Paid online communities are basically what they say on the tin! They are where groups of people come together and they take place online.
An online community is often made up of a small group of people taking part in a discussion via a private, secure platform using a tablet, smartphone, app or computer. This type of research is becoming more and more popular, both with brands and the people taking part too!
How long do they take?
The time required to take part in an online community varies compared to other types of paid market research, and it is totally dependent on the study. However, online communities usually require people to login for around 15-20 minutes a day, usually for 7-10 days. This depends on the specification of the project, though.
Due to the length of time required from an online community, they are usually super easy to squeeze into your day! They can also last anywhere from one week to one year depending on the research requirements.

Why should I take part?
The flexibility of an online community really is one of the biggest benefits of this market research method.
Paid online communities can be completed wherever you like. Yes, we are talking your bed, the sofa, on your way to work – the environment is completely up to you (provided of course you have a good internet connection)!
Not only can you take part in online communities pretty much anywhere, but they are also a great way to get your opinion heard, too. Big companies are always wanting to understand more about their customers, they really value consumers opinions on their products and services.
What do I get for taking part?
Besides the platform to voice your thoughts on products and services, you will also be incentivised for taking the time to take part in an online community. This is usually in the form of a bank transfer, cash, or it could also be a gift certificate.
The amount which you’ll receive for taking part in an online community will vary depending on how long the community lasts. If you’re taking part in a community for an entire year this will be reflected in the incentive compared to a community lasting two weeks.
Project depending, you will receive between £40 – £150 when you take part in an online community, although you will be told clearly at the beginning of the research what the incentive will be.
