Here’s something you might not hear often enough: your opinion really matters. Whether it’s about your favourite food brands, how you like to travel, or the kind of products and services that actually work for you. Your voice can make a genuine difference.
And yet, despite having so much life experience (not to mention excellent taste), people aged 60 and over are still less likely to take part in market research than younger age groups. We’re here to change that.
At Angelfish Opinions, we believe in the power of real people sharing real opinions – and that includes you.
Why now?
Let’s set the scene with a few facts…
- There are 14.5 million people aged 60 and over in England and Wales – that’s 24.4% of the population. (2021 census data)
- By 2040, people aged over 60 will be responsible for 63p of every £1 spent in the UK economy. (The Guardian)
- And forget the stereotype – 80% of over-65s are online regularly, browsing, shopping, reading, and connecting. (Age UK)
In short: over-60s are shaping the world around us more than ever before. So why not shape the research too?
Here are 5 brilliant reasons over 60s should take part in paid market research:
1. Make a real difference
Ever felt like something wasn’t quite made with you in mind? Whether it’s a bit of tech, a supermarket layout, or the way brands speak to you – it probably wasn’t.
That’s where you come in. By sharing your views, you can help companies design products, services and experiences that actually suit your lifestyle. From beauty to books, from pets to pensions, your voice helps brands get it right.
2. It fits perfectly around your lifestyle
Whether you’re retired, semi-retired, or working a bit more flexibly these days, market research can be a lovely way to mix things up. It doesn’t require a huge time commitment; many projects are one-off sessions and can often be done from the comfort of your own home.
It’s a chance to do something meaningful, without turning your routine upside down.

3. It’s fun and genuinely quite social
You might be surprised at how much you enjoy it! Lots of people tell us they come away from a session buzzing with ideas and having had some great chats.
One participant said:
“Gosh what a fabulous afternoon. I learnt so much during the session – yet I was there to help them? What a great group of people I met. We had a fabulous time.”
You could be sharing your views on a new skincare product, discussing your shopping habits, or giving feedback on a website, all while meeting new people or enjoying a stimulating conversation.
4. You’ll learn something new
Market research is a two-way street. Not only do companies learn from you, you often learn something too.
You might get a sneak peek at new ideas, discover how different industries think, or simply find yourself reflecting on your own habits in a whole new way. It’s a lovely way to stay curious and engaged.
5. You’ll get a little thank-you for your time
Let’s be honest, getting paid to share your opinion is a bit of a win-win. Whether it’s a cash payment, voucher or gift card, you’ll always be thanked for your time.
It’s not a job (and it shouldn’t feel like one), but it is a lovely little bonus for doing something different.
Real Voices in Action
We recently supported a project for a well-known financial services provider who wanted to hear directly from people at different life stages, including those planning for or already in retirement.
We recruited 50 participants to share their honest feedback through diary tasks and in-depth discussions. Their thoughts helped the company fine-tune important customer content and challenge outdated assumptions about older audiences.
Best of all? The feedback was so insightful, the company even featured participant quotes on their website AND came back for a second phase of research. Proof that your voice really can make a difference!
So… fancy giving it a go?
