Angelfish Opinions Newsletter #5

Angelfish Opinions | Newsletter #5 – Summer 2026

Hello from Ben 👋

Ben

Hi everyone! I’m Ben – a Project Manager here at Angelfish.

I hope you’ve all been enjoying the summer so far (and managing to stay cool through the heatwaves!).

It’s been another busy few months here at Angelfish. One of the best things about working in market research is the variety. This year alone I’ve worked on projects covering everything from fast food and charities to comedy streaming, helping recruit people to take part in research that shapes products, services, and campaigns.

In this edition we’ve got:

  • Some of the latest research opportunities
  • Tips on becoming a great research participant
  • Interesting findings from our latest Pulse surveys
  • A couple of new blogs you might enjoy
  • A look behind the scenes at what’s been happening at Angelfish

We’re also celebrating a pretty special milestone this year… 15 years of Angelfish!

A huge thank you to everyone who’s been part of the Angelfish Opinions community over the years. Whether you’ve recently joined or have been with us for a while, your opinions help shape better products, services and experiences, and we couldn’t do it without you!

(With the school holidays now underway, it’s one of our busiest times for family and youth research. If you’re a parent, grandparent, or have children at home over the summer, keep an eye on your inbox, you might spot a study that’s perfect for you.)

Quick Explainer: What makes a great research participant?

Not every study is the perfect fit for everyone, and that’s absolutely fine.

The best participants are people who:

  • Answer screening questions honestly
  • Respond to emails and phone calls promptly
  • Are genuinely interested in sharing their opinions
  • Complete everything they’ve agreed to

Sometimes people think they should answer questions in a certain way to increase their chances of being selected. In reality, being honest gives you the best chance of being invited to projects that are genuinely the right fit for you and makes the experience much more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Community Insights: What’s Been On Our Minds This Summer?

One of the things we love doing is running Pulse surveys with our community.

They’re quick snapshots of what people are thinking right now, helping researchers understand how opinions and behaviours change over time.

This summer we’ve been exploring everything from the Football World Cup to how teenagers and their families experienced exam season.

Here are a few interesting findings…

⚽ World Cup Pulse

Did you know…

🏡 59% said they’ll mostly watch matches at home, rather than in pubs or bars.

🍺 Only 13% said they expect to drink more during the tournament, suggesting moderation is becoming much more common.

👥 We also found that who people watch with has a big impact on behaviour. Watching with friends made people much more likely to drink, bet and watch matches in pubs than those watching with family or alone.

📚 Exam Season Pulse

We also spoke to parents about how this year’s exam season felt for their families.

Some of the findings really stood out:

😰 49% said their teenager was more stressed than they expected.

🤖 75% said their teenager used at least one AI tool while revising, with ChatGPT being the most popular.

🍕 Once exams were finished, the biggest planned spend was on food and eating out, followed by clothing and holidays.

We send regular invites to our community to take part in our Pulse surveys, so keep an eye on your inbox, you never know what topic we’ll be asking about next!

Behind the Scenes at Angelfish HQ

It’s been a busy few months for the team!

Angelfish turns 15!

This year marks 15 years of Angelfish, and we celebrated in style with our summer social at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Welcome back!

We’ve had a few exciting team updates recently.

  • Kelly, our Director of Operations, has returned from maternity leave after having her second child in August. We’re so pleased to have her back!
  • Molly has been promoted to Fieldwork Manager, a huge congratulations!
  • Georgia has rejoined us for the summer after completing her final year at university.
  • We also welcomed Charlotte, who joined us for work experience from a local Gloucestershire school. It was fantastic to give someone an insight into the world of market research, and we hope we inspired the next generation!

Out and about

This summer we’ve been out meeting people too.

Our team attended Quirk’s London, one of the UK’s biggest market research events, where researchers and agencies come together to share ideas, discuss the latest trends and see what’s changing across the industry.

We also spent time at the Cheltenham Science Festival, surveying visitors on the festival’s free events programme.

Don’t Forget!

  • Refer a Friend – Know someone who’d enjoy taking part in research too. Refer a friend to Angelfish Opinions and when they successfully complete a research project, you’ll receive a £10 eGift card as a thank you.
  • Follow us on socials – For the latest research opportunities, team fun, and behind-the-scenes action, follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

Until Next Time…

That’s all from us for now!

To keep you in the loop, we’re now publishing our newsletter twice a year rather than quarterly, so we’ll be back this winter with more research opportunities, community news and behind-the-scenes updates.

Until then, enjoy the rest of the summer, and hopefully by the next edition, the heatwaves will just be a distant memory!

Ciao,

Ben and the Angelfish Team
