People come first here at Angelfish Opinions, so we’re putting some of our amazing team in the spotlight so you can get to know them better!
You might have met our Director of Operations Kelly, or Client Services Executive Harry in the past, so here’s the wonderful Laura, one of our Project Executives!
Hi Laura! Let’s jump right in: why did you decide to pursue a career in market research?
It was just happenstance really, but I found that a lot of the traits of a market research career really appealed to me: it’s a fast-paced, dynamic environment, which is something I enjoy.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
I love the variety of different research topics – some of my favourites have included: book publishing, skincare, app testing and, the holy grail, food and eating out. I always find that I’m learning new things all the time (such as amazing skincare tips from respondents) and enjoy all the lovely people I get to work with.
Tell us about an interesting project you’ve recently worked on and why you enjoyed it?
One of my favourite projects I’ve worked on was one for a book publisher where we spoke to parents to find out more about barriers for their children when it comes to reading. It was so interesting finding out about different lifestyles and felt very personable.
What about a challenge you’ve recently faced and how you solved it?
A couple of the research projects we’ve worked on recently have had challenging briefs, focusing on niche communities. Finding the right people to take part in the research at times has proved a challenge – however, it has encouraged me to think more about online communities and where these people can be found. I’ve enjoyed deep diving into social media and catching these people’s attention and introducing some great people to market research!
What are your professional goals for the next year?
To get better at what I’m already doing and learn some new skills along the way. I would love to progress even further: working alongside both clients and respondents to ensure everyone has the best market research experience they can.
I’m also seeking to have more involvement with social media and blog posting, which is a big passion of mine, and hope I can draw more people to take part in market research this way.
And how about the next market research industry trend?
Focus on diversity and inclusion – it’s so important to make sure products meet the needs of all customers and no one gets left behind. For instance, it’s been amazing to see that clients who are developing new web-based platforms and apps are looking for people with visual impairments, dyslexia and/or individuals on the autism spectrum to test their products and give their honest feedback.
